Willow gets next week off from treatments! yeah! She has had three good weeks without getting sick or feeling really rotten, being off the prednisone has helped. That stuff drove us both nuts.

I have her on herb suppliments and she loves the extra meat with her meals. Nash wishes for the same, he gets something special of his own.

As of her last treatment Willow has had al the new chemo drugs and after her week off we cycle back and repeat the first first injections. Now we know what to expect, for the most part. Adjustments have been made to help keep her feeling normal.

Thankfully she has returned to her snuggling self and even has taken on her yoga in the morning with Nash. I am in the process of making a tippy board to help strengthen her hind quarter. SHe likes the therapy ball, but I think the board will be easier for her.

Fund raising has trickled down and I have a few items left over from the Yard Sale on consignment and to sell to antique shops. I have an agility event this weekend where I can put out my donation box while I vend (dog massage.

Thank you to everyone who has helped financially, emotinally, and various contributions.

What has happened so far
The good news is that Willow's lymphoma is in remission and her lymph nodes are normal. We continue our walks and try to find new places to explore.

Willow had her third treatment today, but no chemotherapy was administered as her white blood cell count was too low. Even with out treatment the visit cost $110.00. Willow will go back next week for another treatment of chemotherapy provided her white cell count has gone up.

to date I have been given $2,800.00 with $1,760.00 remaining. There are still 15 visits to go ranging from $110.00 to $445.00 (there are expected to be 4 chemotherapy treatments at this cost).

Willow has her first appointment
Thanks to a generous friend, I was able to make Willow's first treatment for October, 9. I will get a more detailed account of the cost per week at that appointment, but it looks like it will be around $350- $800 a week for the next four weeks, depending on what is done and how Willow responds. After that Willow goes every other week to the end of the 18 weeks. Which can not come soon enough!

Thank you for your contributions and help.

Willow's treatment fund
On September 11th Willow was diagnosed with lymphoma. She is 12 and a half year old labrador retriever and in good health other than the cancer. Without treatment life expectancy is one to four months. As life would have it I am currently not employed, except for my small dog massage business (Beyond the Belly Rub), which does not meet our basic needs at this time. I can ot afford treatments and have started an unofficial "Willow Fund" for those who wish to help. The first appointment can not be made until I have the funds.

the cost of the treatment is expected to run as high as $5,000 with the first treatment costing around $900.00. I am unable to make the first treatment at this time 9/30/08 and I feel time is running out. It has already been one month for Willow.

I have been working on various ways to lower the costs, such as having blood work and xrays done at my local vets.

Lymphoma is a fast growing cancer, but is considered a "treatable" disease as the multi drug chemo therapy treatment has an $85% to 95% remission rate. I will know after the first four treatment if this has been achieved.

I realize Willow is an elderly dog, but after discussing all my options and taking into consideration her age, the three veterinarians and oncologist feel this is a plausable treatment for Willow and suggest I do it.
